Tuesday Museday: The Saltwater Sandal

The Saltwater Sandal
Does anyone else have fond memories of these comfy yet durable sandals from their youth? I mean, I think I wore them every day, weather permitting.  Scratch that - I have evidence of me in them with socks on a crispy San Francisco visit to Grandma's (gasp!).  And their name wasn't just clever - they could be soaking wet from beach waves, endure sand and the not-so-gentle wear and tear of a small child and survive! Miracle Product? My mom would say yes. When I asked her last week to send a few photos of me wearing them as a young child I didn't expect that she'd find 15 in a matter of minutes! I'll spare you the photo collage but here is one gem.

Needless to say, I think I now have an answer for when people ask how a California born and raised girl could love all things reflecting New England Beach Style. Thanks, Mama Bear.

These shoes might not look as cute on big girl feet, but they're the inspiration to all of the sandals you'll see everywhere come Spring and Summer. Come along...

The Original is Back
Think you can pull it off? I'm debating the same thing myself...If you can take the plunge, consider a fun bright color instead of classic white.

New Meets Old

These are as close to the real deal as possible, but mix in some fun pops of color for those looking for a modern look (Neon, another staple from my childhood wardrobe, is also back). Nealy Sandal, Aldo
Understated
Keep is classy and simple with a slight wedge heel in a staple color. Match these with some cuffed colored denim! Drake Sandal by Sabine, Piperlime
Another option that looks strikingly similar to the O.G. but just enough different....Olympia Leather Sandal, J.Crew

Color Pop
You already know it's all about color in the upcoming seasons. Again, your shoes are often the easiest place to utilize color. Don't be shy.
Feeling like splurging? This saltwater meets gladiator sandal will look perfect with a flowy skirt, cuffed jeans or crisp white pants. This is a fave brand of mine but can run on the high end as far as pricing goes. Pour La Victoire Fabia Sandal, Piperlime
Not ready to spend a fortune on trendy, possibly-one-season's-worth-of-wear sandals? Here's an affordable alternative that doesn't sacrifice cuteness.
Brendle Sandal in Bright Multi (Also Available in Cognac and Black Patent if you're leaning away from color), Aldo

Grow Up
If wearing the flat sandal style reminds you just a bit too much of your saltwater-sandal-wearing days, look for a mature look inspired by the same style.

High Road Sandal, Madewell

*Online Shopping Hint* Searching "sandal" on most shopping sites will pull up both flat and heeled versions.

Happy Tuesday Museday, My Broads.

Sincerely,
The Classy Broad (Then and Now)
